Sarah Newton in her own words is something of a maverick. A flamboyant and rebellious character, Sarah has spent a career championing the cause of young people and following her own path from working at Disney World in Florida to being a police officer to working with parents and young people to now flying the flag for creativity and self-expression.
If you are a parent or someone who works with young people there is much to learn from Sarah's story.
A passion for working with and writing about young people led her to become one of the first parenting coaches in the UK and publish a book on parenting - Help my teenager is an Alien. She went on to feature in a mainstream parenting TV series and working with Fortune 500 companies as an advisor on youth and change.
But it hasn't been all plain sailing, a tragic event when a teenager she was working with, in the police force took his own life had a profound effect on her and shaped her subsequent career. She went on to leave her job, home, and husband all at the same time.
The apparent dream of a TV series proved to be a huge challenge to her values and beliefs and led to a further pivot in her career as a writer and influencer around 'Teenology".Sarah is now pursuing a career as a social commentator, a decoder of human behaviour and cataylst for change
Her story shows us the power of conviction and navigating adversity by following your own path.

How to overcome adversity in times of crisis?
'If it's humanly possible, you can do it' – Marcus Aurelius.
In times of human crisis, how do we cope? How do we manage the physical and emotional challenges that present themselves? And perhaps most crucially how do we come out the other side better human beings?
A strange reality has descended on us.
At this time many of us will be at home isolating, some will be part of the army of people who are trying to keep us functioning as nations, and some, of course, will be on the frontline battling this new Coronavirus invader in hospitals and the community.
One thing is for sure, and that is whichever situation you find yourself in, this worldwide crisis will challenge us mentally - our sense of self, our relationships our values and our livelihoods.
But beyond this crisis, how do we overcome the challenges in our lives? What can we do to move on and learn from adversity? What are the mindsets and approaches that distinguish people who move through challenging situations to find new purpose and meaning in their lives?
In this episode, I reflect on the learnings from my guests on the podcast so far, to identify 5 strategies to help overcome adversity and to turn adversity into advantage.
